Anya Mielniczek is a mixed-media artist whose work explores easily discarded materials like plastic bags and candy wrappers. Working intuitively, Mielniczek’s practice is emotionally charged, experimental and responsive to the time and place she’s creating in. The artist’s pieces are both figurative and representational, depicting our materialistic tendencies and the effects our present day consumption has on the environment. Mielniczek graduated from Queen’s University with a BFAH in 2012 and completed her fellowship with The Living Arts Centre in Mississauga in 2014. Most recently the artist returned from INSTINC Studios in Singapore where she collaborated and created for 9 weeks in 2016.
