Figurative and landscape art are often treated as separate beasts. An artist may rough in a background of abstract shapes to frame a portrait, or conversely add a figure as an incidental in a landscape study. To me a figure’s action is given meaning by its setting, and a place by its inhabitants, and I am a participant observer who adds her own filter to the view and to the story. I hope to express all that with gesture, composition and colour. I paint in a loosely naturalistic style, often outside on location or from photo references.
