Artist Statement:

My daily illustrative work usually starts with a 0.1 mm Micron pen on Borden & Riley #234 paper or in a hardbound black sketchbook. I have a love affair with the silky smoothness of the surface and the adventure of a new black ink line on paper. With Beyond the Pale I wanted to create a series of stylistic illustrations with stark and clean lines, again colouring with vintage pastel tones – but now incorporating lettering and words to wryly illustrate statements of fact within gender politics, psychiatric and pharmaceutical industries. My purpose in creating them was to promote political and mental health conversations leading to central exposure and discourse moving away from left-leaning shadows and stigmatization.
