Sarah Carlson earned her Honors BFA in Film Production and Visual Art at York University. Her Hybrid Habitat painting series combines representation with abstraction as a means to reimagine perceived wild and civilized spaces. Layering organic, topographic or painterly figurations with geometric, linear and synthetic forms, spatial boundaries are blurred and new liminal environments created. Her research examines myths around “the wild”, as well as contemporary reports on Canadian species and urban impact on key migratory paths. More than something to be mapped and defined, for Sarah the landscape is a site for questioning and for (re)envisioning symbiotic relationships between humans and the natural.
